With less than one month to go until the 2015 qualifying period begins for the Four and Five Year Old Championships at this year’s KBIS Young Horse Championships, what better time to look back at the progress of some our recent Young Horse Champions.
Ginnie Turnbull commented on her 2015 Four Year Old Champion winning ride, the SHB papered bred Jolie Lark (Grafenstolz x Dracoona Lark/Drayton): “She is a great mare, we have started her a little later on this season to give her a bit of time to mature and do a little show jumping but will definitely be trying to qualify her for the Five Year old Championships at Osberton this time around.
Jolie Lark’s dam was also ridden by Ginnie, as is her uncle Sid IV who Ginnie has produced up to two star level: “She is definitely with us for the long term, she is very special to her owners, the Grindals who have been breeding the same line since 1949. Her mother is hopefully now in foal to Ramiro B so it will be exciting to see what that line produces in the future.”
Emirati Nightsky (Hamlet x Helena/Rex Magnet) was the 2014 Five Year Old Champion at Osberton now owned by Camilla Harries and campaigned by Emily Llewellyn. Their end of season success boosted them to progress up the ranks to Novice level, most recently posting top ten finishes at both Hambleden and Chatsworth International Horse Trials. Emily commented on the KWPN papered gelding: “He has come out on great form this season so I will be aiming him for either Le Lion or Osberton for the Six Year Old title.
Commenting on Osberton as a destination for young equine talent she said: “I will definitely be aiming my younger horses there again this year; it is a great show case for young horses as well as being really educational for them.”
The first Four Year Old qualifying class of the season takes place at Chepstow (4-5 July); entries on the 25th May.
Entries are now open for Little Downham (5-7 June) which hosts the first Five Year Old class of the season.
