Zara Tindall (née Phillips)

King Charles III’s niece Zara Tindall is one of the most recognisable faces on the British Eventing circuit.

Born 15th May 1981 as Zara Phillips, she is the daughter of Princess Anne (The Princess Royal) and Captain Mark Phillips and was educated at Gordonstoun School in Moray, Scotland. During her schooldays, Zara Phillips excelled at many sports, representing her schools in hockey, athletics, and gymnastics. She went on to study at the University of Exeter and qualified as a physiotherapist.

Tindall stopped using her maiden name, Phillips, in March 2016. She competed for the first time as Zara Tindall during her unsuccessful attempt to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. In 2017, she won the third place at the Kentucky Three-Day Event on High Kingdom, before he retired from the sport in 2018.

In October 2021, Tindall competed in Maryland 5 Star at Fair Hill and finished at 11th place with score 30.4, riding Gleadhill House Stud Ltd’s 12-year-old horse named Class Affair. In May 2022, Tindall won the advanced class at the Chatsworth Horse Trials, riding Class Affair.

In May 2024 Zara Tindall was one of several members of the Royal family to visit the Royal Windsor Horse Show, where she spent the day at the endurance venue while her Mother Princess Anne was at the show in the grounds of Windsor Castle. King Charless II spent and afternoon watching Pony Club mounted games and the Musical Drive of the Kings Troop Royal Horse Artillery.

All international eventing competitions begin with a vets inspection to ensure that all the competing horses are fit to continue. Class Affair was accepted for the 2024 renewal of Badminton Horse Trials, the first to bear Mars Equestrian as its Title Sponsor.
