In this era of competition for followers it is easy to forget that social media has a very important place for communities, and the equine photographers community is no exception.

In addition to groups for equestrian photography, there are also some useful generic groups for photography of all sorts, and some for general equestrian related discussions.

Facebook groups for equine photographers

Equestrian Photographers

A large group for equine photographers to share their work and have discussions. Large though it is this group is it is very much centered on equine portraiture and fine art photography of horses. It is also very US-centric and they do things a little differently over there!

Equestrian Photographers UK

A much more relevant group for British and European equestrian photographers, with a broad range of posts on different topics.

This is a good place to start if you are looking for some equine event work or have event work you need a photographer for. It is also a useful group for getting general advice.

Photographers Copyright Protection Group

A slightly different group for several reasons. First it is not a public group and new users must apply to join, but assuming the applicant is a photographer or other member of the media then membership will normally be approved.

I created the PCP Group so that members could report the (apparently illegal) use of obviously watermarked images by riders and others and let the copyright owning photographer know. Sometimes this turns out to have been an approved use but on other occasions it brings it to the photographer’s attention for the first time and they can do something about it.

Facebook groups for business owners

Equine Business Association

Less busy than it used to be but if you own an equestrian business of any sort then this group might be worth investigating. A useful source of advice for legal, accounting and general business info.

Creative Networking

A bit like Facebook’s answer to LinkedIn. A useful place for finding people to collaborate with, especially if you need models, MUAs or creative assistants.

Small and Supercharged

Another small business networking group, this one very female-led. There are quite a few photographers among the members.

Facebook groups for photographers

PTO – Pro Togs Only

This group is the more professional of the two listed here and can be a useful one for asking questions related to professional photography. As with all groups, the discussions are not always helpful!

The Photography Social

A more mixed group which is accessible to all photographers.
