Photos at Marker 2 and last fence: Melton Hunt Club Ride Photos 2021
The 2021 renewal of the annual Melton Hunt Club Ride takes place on Sunday 21st November at 12 noon, on grassland to the North East of the A606 Melton Road at Upper Broughton. This year it is generously supported by Chestnut Horse Feeds and The Retraining of Racehorses.
Lorry parking has been provided at the Connors’ Dairy Farm on Hickling Lane, accessed from the A606 as you leave the village of Upper Broughton.
As usual, the Melton Hunt Club Ride course is decided by individual competitors, with specific turning markers being the only compulsory elements. Two red markers must be left to the right, three white markers must be left to the left.
The start is on a stubble field three fields North of Green Lane, accessed from a track opposite Dell Farm.
PLEASE NOTE THAT SPECTATORS ARE JOT TO WALK THROUGH THE FARM TO THE START. PLEASE TREAT THE START AS COMPETITORS ONLY.
Spectator parking will be a short distance further down Green Lane, on the right hand side. Car parking will be £10 per car or £5 for single occupancy. Drinks and refreshments will be available near the finish.
The course then proceeds East North East across three hedges to the first red turning marker at point 1 on the course map.

The next turning marker, number 2, is just South of the Miscanthus plot, from where the course heads West South West uphill, behind Dell Farm, towards turning point 3.
The next image shows Marker 3 in the hedge line which runs North/South, just West of Dell Farm.
Leaving the marker hedge behind the course heads left and steeply downhill to the next jumping effort.
From here there are two routes to Marker 4, above or below a large copse of trees in front of this hedge. The downhill route is shown in the picture before last. Here is the uphill route to the next hedge:
After that hedge turn left, running parallel to the main road to the next hedge which runs at right angles to the main road.
Riders who have opted to go the other way around the copse, can cross the hedge line which contains Marker 4 at various points:
Whilst the easier route is shown on the map, there is a direct route between Markers 4 and 5 which is much shorter...
Crossing this hedge brings the direct and indicative routes together again, before the final hedge to the finish.
As usual it is important to point out that this is not a replacement for a thorough course walk under any circumstances, but is provided as an overview for competitors and spectators alike.

The map is still wrong
Indeed I am aware the indicative route is not accurate and that the last marker is not where it says it is on the map but that is the only map I have been given so I can’t do much about it. I am nothing to do with the organisation and do this as a favour to travelling competitors each year.
