Oliver Townend and Ballaghmor Class, Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials 2017

A long and tough five days at Burghley Horse Trials is finally over. Oliver Townend has been crowned and a British 1,2,3,4 is definitely worth celebrating.

Saturday saw its fair share of thrills and spills (I seem to be the nemesis for the Kiwis, with both Andrew and Mark falling at fences I was photographing at the time) and I struggled to get to all the fences I wanted to photograph owing to the order of running of the ones I needed to photograph and the overall lack of runners. The important things were managed though: Americans over different fences; Kiwis over different fences; leaders over different fences, and a few notable extras for fun along the way.

I want to give a special mention to the local riders who did so well. Richard Jones (South Luffenham), Simon Grieve (Oakham), Willa Newton (Waltham on the Wolds) and Angus Smales (Oakham).

As I write the images are uploading to the various clients around the World as well as to my own Burghley Horse Trials galleries.
