The Scurry Course
The Cottesmore Scurry starts from two fields South of the radio mast on the Cold Overton Road between Knossington and Oakham – https://w3w.co/graver.paintings.crate.
The course starts in a southerly direction with fences 1 and 2 directly in line.
After Fence 2 the course turns left (East) and the next hedge must be jumped to the right of the marker.
After fence 3 the direct route goes downhill to a double of hedges crossing Leicester Lane.
Immediately after the lane crossing the direct route takes you right across Fence 5 but if you are going to fast and miss this there is a further option to cross this hedgeline further East.
Whichever way you’ve gone the next obstacle is Fence 6 and Marker 2, after which you head back uphill.
Fence 7 also has Marker 3 to be left to the left and this is the furtherest point away from the finish.
Turn left after Fence 7 and head back Westwards to Fence 8.
Fences 9 and 10 are next to the top of Leicester Lane. The gate at the end of Fence 10 will be shut.
The course then proceeds West beside Wilson’s Covert towards Green Lane. Fence 11 is the last hedge line before the lane.
After Fence 11 the course continues straight to the crossing of Green Lane at Fence 12, a double of hunt jumps.
After the lane crossing at Fence 12 the course veers slightly to the right towards Marker 5 which is in the middle of the next hedgeline. The gate here will be open.
After Marker 5 the course is very visible ahead of you as you head towards the farmhouse at the top of the next ridge. Between you and the edge of Cold Overton Wood on your right are two hedges to be jumped
When you get to the edge of Cold Overton Wood (Orton Park) you will turn tight over Fence 15.
Continue straight ahead to Fence 16, after which the course turns left.
Between Fence 16 and Fence 17 there is an open gateway. Fence 17 offers a direct and more hairy option to the left as well as a well trimmed route further to the right. Marker 8 is visible just to the right of the tree to the left of the photo.
After Fence 17 the course turns left and there are two options for crossing the next hedge line. The first is a single effort followed by a bit of a gallop around a corner, the second is more direct but requires two jumping efforts. The hedge straight ahead after the hunt jump in the second option will be trimmed and jumpable.
Then the course turns right to Fence 19 and Marker 9.
Again, after Fence 19 the course heads right (North) to Fence 20 and the final Marker 10.
Fence 21 is the last obstacle for both courses.
Foxhunter Course
The Cottesmore Foxhunter starts from a field North of the village of Braunston – https://w3w.co/cuts.system.diplomas
The course starts in a Westerly direction.
After Fence 1 the course turns North (right handed) and proceeds uphill.
At the top of the hill it turns West again to cross the bridleway, leaving Marker 2 to your left.
Fence 6 offers lots of jumping options to the left of Marker 3.
Then we turn right to Fences 7 and 8 (Fence 1 of the Scurry in the opposite direction)
The course then goes straight ahead towards the radio mast to Fence 9.
There is a large stretch of hedgeline at Marker 4, providing multiple options for Fence 10.
After Fence 10 there is a flat stretch of pasture heading West to Fence 11, downhill.
After Fence 11 you must cross the stream to the right of Marker 5.
After the ditch the course continues South through two open gateways, Markers 6 and 7 separated by a headland.
After Marker 7 the course turns right again, along the South side of Cold Overton Park Wood (Orton Park).
Then we turn right around the wood to a hedge and pallisade at Marker 8.
Then straight on to Fence 16 and Marker 9.
After Fence 16 the course turns left again and between Fences 16 and 17 there is an open gate.
Straight on to Marker 11.
Then right-handed to the last.
