You may have noticed that recently British Showjumping introduced a new policy as part of their safeguarding structure, which requires photographers who shoot at BS shows to register with them as “accredited photographers”.
Photographers working for an event photographer would also need to register.
Although it is not clear how these new rules impact other members of a photographers team, such as stand staff, but given that they would spend more time in the company of riders I think we should assume that they will be required to register too.
Natalie Owen is the point of contact at British Showjumping. Her email is Natalie.Owen@britishshowjumping.co.uk.
Here is an outline of the process:
Register
If you don’t already have a British Showjumping account, you will need to create a free online account using the ‘Members Online’ portal. To access this, visit the British Showjumping website and click ‘Member login’ in the top-right-hand corner.
You will be able to create an account by clicking ‘Not registered or can’t login?’ and following the setup process.
All individual photographers will need to be listed as a Registered Photographer, even if they operate under a company name. If you are the owner of the company, please use your personal email address to set up your own account, to allow us to create a ‘company’ account using the company email address.
Forms
Once you have created an account, please send an email to Natalie.Owen@britishshowjumping.co.uk to request:
- A Self-Declaration Form.
- Code of Conduct and Ethics Form.
- A link to the British Showjumping Safeguarding training, if you do not already hold a valid Safeguarding certification.
The self declaration form is an editable online form with simple Yes/No answers to questions about any previous convictions. This must be completed and then digitally signed.
The Code of Conduct and Ethics Form is a longer document which outlines the standards of behaviour which British Showjumping expect photographers to adhere to. This document also outlines how the British Showjumping Registered Photographer logo, sent to you at the end of theis registration process, can be used. Again, this online form must be digitally signed.
Natalie will send you an invoice for your £10 payment which covers the training you also have to complete. This is all done online and takes about 30-60 minutes, after which you will have a certificate to send to British Showjumping.
Registration
Once you have completed and submitted all the documentation, you will be given a free ‘Registered Photographer’ Membership‘ (please note: this account is for contact purposes only and does not hold the same rights and privileges of other British Showjumping Memberships) and a ‘Registered Photographer’ qualification on your account, which will allow show centres to allocate you on their schedules.
If you would prefer your company name to be listed on the schedules instead of your name, you will need to send Natalie the company name and email address. BS will then be able to connect all of your photographers to the company account. Please note: only those that are registered with British Showjumping as a Registered Photographer will be permitted to operate under your company name at British Showjumping shows. Please ensure all photographers that you usually employ get in touch to register with us.

Hi Alan. If you look at the branding of this page you will see that I am not British Showjumping, I’m just providing a guide for what they want us photographers to do. It sounds like you will have no problem jumping through the hoops though, good luck!
