The Cottesmore Hunt Boxing Day meet in Oakham

Posted on 26th December 2019 in .  So far there are No comments

The Cottesmore Hunt, founded in 1666, continued the tradition of meeting on Boxing Day in Oakham as they congregated in Cutts Close today.

Despite heavy rain there was a good turn out of mounted and foot followers as well as a handful of quiet protesters.

Although fox hunting was banned in 2004, exemptions include trail hunting (the following of a pre-laid trail) and the flushing of foxes to a bird of prey or gun(s). Contrary to some reports the Cottesmore's Steppe/Golden Eagle Anna was present at the meet.

Supporters of the hunt remained behind after the meet to clear up Cutts Close and tread in divots while the hunt followed their advertised plan to follow a trail in Burley Wood.
