I had the pleasure of visiting Ben Maher at his yard in Elsenham, Essex in November, along with a film crew and several representatives of Land Rover UK.
Ben has won a host of different title around the World won the team jumping gold at the London Olympics with Team GB, their first team jumping gold medal for 60 years. In 2013 he won team gold and individual silver at the European Championships riding Cella. He won the Olympia Grand Prix on Tripple X and the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of London on Cella.
Ben is one of Land Rover's Brand Ambassadors and we were spending the day with him to record a Masterclass during which he talked us through some of his day-to-day jumping exercises and then answered questions about his plans for Olympic preparation in 2016.
During the second half of the dark, drizzly and windy day he took Ellie Kelly from Countryside magazine out for a hack on one of his horses so she could interview him and experience the thrill of riding a top-flight horse next to the great man himself.
I am very grateful to Ben and his very helpful team, who could not have been accommodating throughout the day.
